KARACHI: In a decisive match held at the National Bank Stadium, the Stars triumphed over the Conquerors by 42 runs to claim the National Women’s T20 Tournament title on Saturday.
Choosing to bat first, the Stars set a challenging target, scoring 135 runs for the loss of five wickets. Opener Sana Urooj was instrumental in this effort, contributing a rapid 44 runs off 37 balls. Her innings included seven boundaries and helped establish strong partnerships, notably a 33-run opening stand with Huraina Sajjad, who made 23 runs, and a 47-run collaboration with Kaynat Hafeez, who added 21 runs.
The Stars’ innings saw late contributions from captain Sidra Amin, who hit 18 runs in just 13 balls, and Sidra Nawaz, who scored 15 off 11 balls, providing a boost in the final overs. The Stars’ innings came to a close with a total of 135, putting pressure on the Conquerors.
In response, the Conquerors struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for 93 runs, falling short with two balls remaining. Anosha Nasir was a standout performer with the ball, claiming three wickets for just 14 runs, while Waheeda Akhtar supported her with two wickets for 17 runs.
Dua Majid was the top scorer for the Conquerors, making 29 runs, followed by Najiha Alvi with 21 runs and Syeda Aroob Shah who added 14 runs. The middle-order duo of Alvi and Shah managed to form a modest 30-run partnership for the fifth wicket but could not prevent the collapse of the innings.
For their outstanding performances, both Sana Urooj and Anosha Nasir received the player-of-the-final honors. Additionally, Sidra Amin was recognized as the tournament’s best batter, accumulating 346 runs throughout the competition, while Sidra Nawaz earned accolades as the best wicket-keeper with 15 dismissals and 150 runs to her name. Anosha was also awarded the title of best bowler, sharing the honor with Rameen Shamim of the Challengers, who led the tournament with 16 wickets.
