In Monte Carlo, Lando Norris achieved a significant milestone in his racing career by winning his first Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, further intensifying the competition for the 2025 Formula One drivers’ championship. This victory not only adds a prestigious title to his achievements but also narrows the gap between him and his McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, in the championship standings.
Norris crossed the finish line ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who secured second place, while Piastri rounded out the podium in third during the eighth race of the season. With this win, Norris has now reduced Piastri’s championship lead to just three points, following his earlier success in Australia.
The race, held on the iconic streets of Monaco, was marked by Norris’s impressive performance, making him the first McLaren driver to triumph in this event since Lewis Hamilton’s victory in 2008. “This is a dream come true,” Norris exclaimed over the team radio, expressing his elation after a challenging but rewarding race weekend that included securing pole position.
Despite the heat and intensity of the race, Norris maintained his lead, finishing 3.131 seconds ahead of Leclerc, who acknowledged his rival’s superior performance. “Lando did a better job and he deserves to win,” Leclerc remarked, reflecting on the unexpected success of the weekend. “I thought we would struggle to be in the top 10, so this has been a positive outcome, even if I wish I had taken the win myself.”
Oscar Piastri, who faced difficulties during qualifying, expressed his disappointment at not being able to improve his position. “I got close but not close enough. In Monaco, if you start low, it’s hard to move up the ranks,” he noted.
Max Verstappen, the four-time reigning world champion, finished fourth, while Lewis Hamilton, driving another Ferrari, completed the top five. The race in Monaco has once again demonstrated the unpredictable nature of Formula One, with Norris’s victory adding excitement to the ongoing championship race.
