The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) announced a significant achievement in its ongoing efforts to combat corruption, reporting recoveries and disbursements exceeding Rs88 billion during the first quarter of 2025. This information was shared at the conclusion of the bureau’s 24th Directors General Conference held recently at its headquarters in Islamabad.
In a detailed press statement, NAB outlined that the total recoveries comprised over Rs2 billion in direct recoveries and a remarkable Rs86 billion classified as indirect recoveries. These funds were primarily sourced from cases involving the illegal transfer and occupation of both public and private lands.
Among the notable indirect recoveries, NAB Balochistan successfully reclaimed approximately 340 acres of land from Chiltan Park and an additional 250 acres from the forest department, amounting to a financial recovery of around Rs6.45 billion. Similarly, NAB Lahore played a crucial role by recovering Rs70.87 billion through three significant cases linked to the Employees Cooperative Housing Society, the State Life Insurance Employees Cooperative Housing Society, and the Sarwar Omega Villas.
In other regions, NAB Multan reported a recovery of Rs13 million from the GFS 7 Wonders Housing Scheme, while NAB Sukkur reclaimed 610 acres of land belonging to the National Highway Authority, valued at Rs8.53 billion.
The bureau also outlined its disbursement efforts, which included direct transfers of Rs9.72 million to the federal government, Rs10.80 million to various provincial governments, and Rs73.51 million allocated to different departments and financial institutions. Additionally, NAB highlighted its commitment to the community by distributing Rs1.99 billion directly to over 19,000 victims affected by fraudulent schemes.
These recoveries were achieved through various methods, including plea bargains, voluntary returns, and settlements, demonstrating NAB’s dedication to its mission of recovering misappropriated public funds and fostering a corruption-free environment in Pakistan. The bureau reiterated its unwavering resolve to safeguard the interests of the public and maintain accountability within governance.
