PESHAWAR, Pakistan – In a coordinated effort to combat terrorism, security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) reported the elimination of nine terrorists during a series of intelligence-based operations on Sunday, as confirmed by the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The operations were strategically executed in various districts of KP, including Dera Ismail Khan and Tank, targeting individuals identified as affiliated with the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, colloquially referred to as ‘khawarij.’
An operation in Dera Ismail Khan led to a significant exchange of fire, resulting in the deaths of four individuals labeled as Indian-sponsored terrorists. Subsequent actions in Tank district brought down two more, with an additional three neutralized in the Bagh area of Khyber district.
The ISPR reported that these terrorists were involved in various acts of violence and that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the sites. In light of these developments, ongoing sanitization operations aim to ensure the complete eradication of remaining threats in the region.
This wave of operations follows another recent engagement where 12 terrorists, also reported to have links to Indian proxy groups, were killed across KP and Balochistan. The military’s recent statements suggest an increase in such engagements since the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan ended its ceasefire with the government in late 2022.
The ISPR has previously indicated that Indian state actors may be amplifying terrorist activities within Pakistan, implying a geopolitical dimension to the ongoing security challenges.
As the security situation evolves, the Pakistani military remains committed to addressing the threat of terrorism, reflecting a broader concern regarding regional stability and safety for its citizens.
